Who should manage your corporate wellness program?
More and more companies are hiring a position for Chief Well-being Officers or Well-being Directors. A post-pandemic lifestyle shift has shown corporations that taking care of their employees' health and well-being is essential and a full-time job. Although this is an excellent step in the right direction, only some companies can make this shift.

If your company does not have dedicated personnel to well-being, the job usually falls within the already overworked HR department. The Human Resources department houses numerous company roles: managing the employee life cycle, policies and procedures, compensation and benefits, employee relations, employee records, company compliances, continued education, and so on. More often than not, no one in the HR department has the resources or knowledge to take on the entire role of implementing a well-rounded wellness program.
Even having a Chief Well-being Officer may not be the overarching fix to a company’s wellness program but another piece to the puzzle, according to Chief Well-being Officer at Deloitte, Jen Fisher.
“We need to acknowledge that the way we work isn't sustainable for humans right now. There's a lot of things about work that need to change that may or may not ultimately be the responsibility of a chief wellness officer," Fisher says. "These things need to sit truly within the C-suite to relook at work and change systems that have been in place for a long time. Because the way we're working and the way we want to work is so different. And those are the things that are having a more outsize impact on people's well-being."
Ultimately a wellness program will only have a lasting impact if the C-suite is involved in the implementation and core of the program.
